Today I received my copy of the book titled "Best Business Practices for Photographers" by John Harrington. As Chase Jarvis recommends it is a great resource for the business side of photography. Boring I'm sure but well worth the information. It is very thorough and covers just about everything. It will probably take me a while to read it through but I will give a review when I'm completed. I just thought is was time to take it to the next level.
I am 34 years old and will turn 35 in July. My goal for as far back as I can remember was to be successful by the time I turned 35. I have six months. It seems so close but at the same time I am really close to doing this full time. Days go by so fast now and I have to take every opportunity, every minute of the day. I don't do the New Years resolutions thing. I do the new life resolutions. Every so often I review my standing in life and make corrections or improvements. Throw out the useless and gather the useful. That may include everything from useless friends to boxes of shit in my closet. I have never been a keeper of useless crap. If what is useful today turns out to sit in a closet it gets tossed. If people in my life become a burden or I find them to be a bad influence they get tossed too. Maybe it sounds cold and cruel but it's what's best for me that makes me better.
This year I will attempt new photographic challenges including photographing the local, and possibly regional, Women's Flat Track Roller Derby leagues. It is as exciting as it is difficult to photograph. As well I will be shooting more modeling and band images. I find photographing people is absolutely the most difficult subject. Of course I will still be shooting the concerts in the area for the local clubs too. I really am looking forward to that. Nothing like getting paid to photograph a great band and see the concert at the same time!
Stay tuned for updates!
